Posted in Articles | Tagged Bunbury Music Festival, MPMF | Leave a reply Bogart’sīogart’s is one of the largest and most historic venues that we have in Cincinnati. Its amazing that we can now hold such great shows at all of the venues and bring in acts for music festivals. I think Cincinnati’s music scene has certainly come a long way. So maybe that should be our new challenge as a city, to become more informed to the local events taking place. There are great local acts going on every night of the week around town that people just don’t know about. And maybe the local bands don’t do a good enough job advertising their shows. Thus, there isn’t a lot of inner city support being built between bands. As a Cincinnati musician I’ve observed that a lot of bands play so frequently that they don’t have time to attend other local shows. While these are excellent points, is the diversity hurtful to Cincinnati as a music scene? Matthew Szekeresh said that there are “great bands, not enough fans.” And this could be what’s holding back the local scene. Tess Eger brought up a good point by saying that Cincinnati is a melting pot city and “If we defined ourself by a specific type then that would take away how unique our blended culture is in Cincinnati.” And furthermore, Ben Williams suggested, “maybe we as a city are more defined by our venues (Riverbend, Bogarts, etc) than by a specific style of music.” ![]() The local scene is starting to change.īut how can we be defined as a city? If you look at various cities around the country you can somewhat classify them by the music surrounding them. I think something is definitely happening here. This summer for the first time, Cincinnati is hosting Bunbury Music Festival at Sawyers Point which will be huge with bands like Jane’s Addiction, Death Cab for Cutie, and Weezer headlining. It takes place all over downtown and has started to move into some of the larger venues downtown to hold the growing crowd. Each year, Midpoint Music Festival gets bigger and bigger, attracting the hottest acts in the Indie Rock world. Yet, in the past, Cincinnati hasn’t been a destination for a lot of big acts in music. With many great venues around the city and talented local bands there’s a lot to offer in the way of music. Cincinnati certainly has a wide variety of local music. ![]()
